I’m not blown away very often.\u00a0 Movies have surprised me before, but I’m not sure it has ever happened this much.<\/p>\n
We’ve been seeing previews for this movie for awhile.\u00a0 And it’s not like I wasn’t going to see it.\u00a0 As I’ve alluded to previously, I LOVE ROBOT FIGHTS.\u00a0 I’ve seem them all.\u00a0 From the straight shitty (Robot Jox<\/em>) to the disappointing (Bay’s Transformers<\/em>) to the surprisingly good (Real Steel<\/em>).\u00a0 I feel the 1986 animated Transformers<\/em> to be highly superior to the live action version.\u00a0 I am a veteran of Robotech<\/em> and Gundam<\/em>.\u00a0 I’m the only person who watched Sym-Bionic Titan<\/em> and who liked Matrix:Revolutions<\/em>.\u00a0 This is all to say, I’ve seen most everything the genre has to offer and am not a likely candidate to be blown away by Gundam Wing<\/em> vs Godzilla and Friends.<\/p>\n I figured Guillermo Del Toro would give us an entertaining effort like he did in Hellboy 2<\/em> and that the movie would be a better than average summer tentpole because of his involvement.<\/p>\n I was incorrect.<\/p>\n This movie is fucking amazing.<\/p>\n The plot (which I assumed would just be the normal weak excuses for massive robot fights) was actually great.\u00a0 It’s still an action movie but it’s got a knack for knowing when you’d like to be cynical and fucking that right up for you.\u00a0 There’s a dimensional rift in the pacific and gigantic horrible monstors the size of Cuthulu regularly visit from it.\u00a0 These are called kaiju.\u00a0 After almost dying out humanity is able to create giant war machines to combat these beasts, called jagers.\u00a0 The machines link to the human brain but you need at least two to run it as the load is too big for one mind.\u00a0 And it is better if the two minds are close in some way because the minds have to link to each other to accomplish this.<\/p>\n I don’t want so spoil the wonderful world that they’ve created here by telling you too much.\u00a0 Veterans will recognize the usual anime tropes, but they’re done extremely well.\u00a0 Idris Elba is like a samurai Lou Gosset Jr.\u00a0 Sorry Morpheus, but you’ve been topped.\u00a0 Charlie Hunnam, who I havent seen since Green Street Hooligans<\/em>, is an awesome point man for this movie.\u00a0 Those of you who know Charlie Day from Always Sunny in Philidelphia<\/em> will love his scientist character.\u00a0 Rinko Kikuchi and Ron Pearlman round out a wonderful cast.<\/p>\n This movie is epic.\u00a0 G-Gundam, meets Iron Eagle, and that isn’t the half of it.\u00a0 It’s larger than life.\u00a0 It blew me away.<\/p>\n See this movie in the theater.\u00a0 Now.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" I’m not blown away very often.\u00a0 Movies have surprised me before, but I’m not sure it has ever happened this much.
