{"id":422,"date":"2012-11-15T00:12:21","date_gmt":"2012-11-15T00:12:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/movieox.com\/?p=422"},"modified":"2012-11-15T00:20:13","modified_gmt":"2012-11-15T00:20:13","slug":"skyfall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/movieox.com\/?p=422","title":{"rendered":"Skyfall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>First, I&#8217;m a James Bond fan.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve seen all of them.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t care for Roger Moore&#8217;s bond, though I liked some of the movies he did.\u00a0 Sean Connery I can take or leave as Bond, George and Timmy are medium.\u00a0 I am a huge fan of Pierce Brosnan as Bond.\u00a0 <em>Goldeneye<\/em> was my favorite Bond (and is still the best 1st person shooter ever).\u00a0 Too bad most of the films they made for Brosnan sucked asshole.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Craig is an inspired choice for Bond.\u00a0 He&#8217;s some sort of combination between Connery&#8217;s obvious physicality and Brosnan&#8217;s suavity.\u00a0 <em>Casino Royale<\/em> (directed by <em>Goldeneye<\/em>&#8216;s Martin Campbell) brutalized its way to my favorite Bond movie.\u00a0 It was almost like, let&#8217;s make everyone remember why all this shit is cool in the 1st place.\u00a0 And it was fantastic yet grounded in reality.\u00a0 (everything in a movie, no matter how ridiculous, must be grounded in reality; you choose what rules to change and stop there otherwise it just comes across as lazy.\u00a0 Well, to smart people it comes across as lazy)<\/p>\n<p><em>Quantam of Solace<\/em> started like a freight train, but it was derailed by a few choices about the ending.\u00a0 They made the mistake of having the final confrontation between Bond and Greene(the bad guy) a physical one.\u00a0 The dude was a mental bad guy.\u00a0 He was utterly unconvincing as a physical danger.\u00a0 And he wasn&#8217;t supposed to be one; they just got to the end and couldn&#8217;t figure out anything better.\u00a0 And the ending took too long; it took away from the &#8216;cold&#8217; post ending because everyone was exhausted.<\/p>\n<p><em>Skyfall<\/em> suffers from some of the same issues.\u00a0 It started like a bat out of hell.\u00a0 And it has solid character introductions: adding the male M (with his red leather door most will recognize), Moneypenny, and Q back to the cast.\u00a0 It&#8217;s overall function is to show how the <em>Casino Royale<\/em> Bond transitioned to the <em>Goldfinger<\/em> Bond since we started back before he was 00rated.\u00a0 And Javier Bardem is an inspired choice to play a turned agent.\u00a0 And his gay routine was hilarious.\u00a0 But it was a rehash of the 006 plot from a better movie.\u00a0 And there&#8217;s some intrigue, but no mystery and the final action piece is just boring.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re going to have a shootout in a field; you need to bring your A-game.\u00a0 Ox has seen a lot of fucking shootouts in fucking fields silhouetted by fucking fire.\u00a0 And he has seen it done better.\u00a0 Many times over the last 20 years.\u00a0 And where the fuck was Mr. White and the continuity we spent the last 2 movies building?\u00a0 Maybe he&#8217;ll be back.\u00a0 But I was disappointed.<\/p>\n<p>What did I like?\u00a0 Moneypenny is hot as hell and they have a more liberated take on her.\u00a0 Which is nice.\u00a0 Q is perfect.\u00a0 The new M is dourly appropriate.\u00a0 Also the first 2\/3 of the movie is fairly exciting.\u00a0 But the end is just kind of stupid.\u00a0 You gotta bring more to the table.\u00a0 This is Bond.<\/p>\n<p>What they need for the next one is to stop rebooting and reintroducing.\u00a0 Everyone knows who&#8217;s who and that Jimmy is a fucking orphan spy smooth badass.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s focus on creating a cool problem with an exciting and intellectually stimulating resolution and stop all this fucking character development.\u00a0 Its the 23rd fucking film.\u00a0 The characters are developed.<\/p>\n<p>Anyhow, its not terrible.\u00a0 But top 10-15 (of Bond films) is probably the best I can rate it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First, I&#8217;m a James Bond fan.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve seen all of them.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t care for Roger Moore&#8217;s bond, though I liked some of the movies he did.\u00a0 Sean Connery I can take or leave as Bond, George and Timmy are &hellip;
