Outbreak 2: Pretension<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Well, it\u2019s not really as bad as all that.\u00a0 But Outbreak<\/em> was a more enjoyable movie.<\/p>\n

If you keep reading, beware. There be spoilers.<\/p>\n

This film had a slightly retro, clipped down style that I did enjoy.<\/p>\n

If unfolds like a 70\u2019s procedural (except for the attention to detail).\u00a0 The film follows the spread of a very deadly virus and all consequences.<\/p>\n

And I do mean all consequences: scientific, political, societal, financial, you name it.<\/p>\n

My favorite character was the amoral blogger (yep) played by Jude Law.\u00a0 He see\u2019s the outbreak coming and seeks to profit by his hugely increased readership as the disease spreads.\u00a0 Jude Law needs to play more bad guys.<\/p>\n

Lawrence Fishburn is a CDC luminary who\u2019s team is tasked with fighting the disease in the US, but his real problems are navigating the political pitfalls that emerge (democracy is a goddamn hassle sometimes).\u00a0 Especial insanity occurs when it leaks that they might have a cure for the virus and there will be delays manufacturing it.<\/p>\n

So there\u2019s good here.<\/p>\n

The problem I have is the consequences are too pat.\u00a0 Things work out for the good people (good defined by a strict eco-socialist definition) and the bad people are punished.\u00a0 Matt Daemon\u2019s daughter is rewarded with life for waiting to bone her boyfriend until he is certified clean by the government.\u00a0 And there\u2019s lots of stupid shit like that throughout the movie.<\/p>\n

And lastly, the virus was a pretty cool story in and of itself but the conclusion of the film ruined it.\u00a0 The virus was caused by bats who were fleeing deforestation in Kowloon.\u00a0 Or nearby Kowloon.\u00a0 Whatever, it was retarded.\u00a0 This would be a better film if it stressed the indifference of nature instead of trying to be eco-preachy.\u00a0 Meh, I should have seen The Debt<\/em> instead.\u00a0 That\u2019ll be coming soon.<\/p>\n
